Hydrocontest-X

The competition was held in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland in 2019.

About the project

The competition was held in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland in 2019.

The Hydrocontest Competition was held in July 2019 in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, in collaboration with the Faculty of Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Haute École d’ingénierie et d’architecture Friborg – HEIA-FR and Haute École de gestion du canton de Vaud (HEIG-VD). These colleges are also the organizers of the competition with the non-profit organization “Hydros Foundation” supported by Thierry Lombard and “Lombard Odier Group”.

This was the first international competition organized by students to encourage young people to develop energy efficient ships that they believe are the future. They invite us to create prototypes that with their shape provide as little resistance as possible to use the installed power to achieve higher speeds.

The main limitations of the competition were that the ship should not go beyond the default dimensions of 2.5 x 2.5 x 2m and all get the same propulsion, design and concept left to us. There are 4 categories of competition, light and heavy, durability and efficiency. In the heavy category, it is necessary to load 200 kg of fixed dimensions cargo, and in the light category 20 kg. 20 kg of cargo is also transported for efficiency and durability.

The boat JADRANKA is designed for heavyweight. The design itself has made extensive use of direct calculation methods, in particular computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element method (FEM). Only advanced composite materials will be used in the construction of the vessel, mainly carbon fibers, from which the hull and deck of the ship are built.
